Keep Making a Difference
Federal employees do a lot of good in our country. We make life easier for many people, we even make life possible in some places. We build and maintain bridges, clean up superfund sites, ensure clean drinking water, deliver water to millions of acres of farmland, inspect food, provide oversight to the testing and approval of new medicines, protect awesome natural splendours and wildlife, and, yes, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, ensure domestic tranquility, and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. We make a difference, and we are proud that we do. Almost 800,000 of us Federal employees sit idle today. Imagine if all of us does something for our community for just an hour a day while we remain idle. Continue to make a difference. Take a bag with you on a walk and clean up the trash as you go. Visit that housebound neighbor you've been meaning to, but just never had the time. Spend some time at the library learning sign language so you can better communicate with the deaf. Spend an hour or two in your kids' classroom. It is HARD to find volunteer opportunities for a day, a week, or however long we may be out. But we can do little things on our own. Imagine 800,000 hours a day in our communities, making a difference. Spread the word. Share this blog. Share your stories. Tweet, Facebook, Pinterest, letters to the editor, whatever. Inspire yourself, inspire others, continue making a difference.
